| Helen Sawyer, a baby boomer, was raised in a quaint old western suburb of Chicago, where she met and married her high school sweetheart. Reading The Adventures of Tom Sawyer is fun, but living with him for 37+ years has been an incredible adventure. Far better than just a smooth sailing ride on a homemade raft down the mighty Mississippi, or whitewashing fences! Her family has called Atlanta home since 1978. She has three grown children, two sons (no juniors), one daughter, and is a very proud and blessed grandmother. Helen, a member of SCBWI, joined Book Bound after meeting the very inspirational Donna Bowman, at the SCBWI Springmingle ’04. There is never a dull moment during our meetings while critiquing stories and completing challenging assignments. They say it’s good to think outside the box! In this group, what box? We laugh, we learn and do we ever write! Helen began writing a few years ago, after her beloved mother passed away, by sending cards to her mother’s friends. Her mother is truly her inspiration! Helen enjoys writing children’s stories, poetry and personalized greeting cards. Currently she sends a monthly card to senior citizens, many of whom she has never met. The month, season or holiday determines the theme of each card. Helen also writes about one of her precious grand dogs, (She has four grand dogs and four grand cats!) Shelby, a ten pound (when wet) Miniature Pinscher who is forever doing something that no other dog would ever think of doing. Shelby’s favorite game of all is fetching rocks and not a ball! When Helen isn’t writing, reading, sewing, organic gardening, doing Yoga or working out at the Y, you may find her somewhere “floating” on a raft, trying to keep up with the next adventure with her real Tom Sawyer! Helen invites you to join her on an adventure through her stories. Helen can be reached at: grams022005@yahoo.com. |
| When not writing, Helen's lovingly looking after her granddaughter. |
