Heather Kolich is a freelance writer, photographer, and children’s author.  Her feature
articles and photographs have appeared in newspapers, magazines, and business publications
since 1999.  Her humorous poem, “Self Editing,” appeared in the July-August 2007 issue of
SCBWI Bulletin, and “Fly Fishing,” a poem for children, is slated for a future edition of
Babybug magazine.  “Assured Match,” a short story for older teens, won first place in a
recent Georgia Writer’s Association contest.  Heather also writes easy readers, picture
books, and middle grade/young adult novels, one of which earned an Honorable Mention in
the Writer’s Digest 76th Annual Writing Competition.  Her parenting columns and book

After earning a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Georgia, Heather became
a research specialist with Emory University’s Yerkes Regional Primate Research Center,
where she worked in language research and behavioral biology.  She has also been a sign
language interpreter for deaf and hard-of-hearing students and an instructional assistant for
special needs children.

Heather is an information contact person for Southern Breeze, the Georgia/Alabama/
Mississippi chapter of the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators, and the
manuscript coordinator for Southern Breeze writing contests for 2007 and 2008.  She is also
an active member of Georgia Writer’s Association and enjoys presenting career talks,
newspaper writing workshops, local history lectures, and book readings and discussions in
schools.

When she is not writing, Heather enjoys high adventure activities with her Venturing Crew,
gardening, building stuff, reading, researching for her next book, and being with her family in
the history-rich foothills of North Georgia.
